Preparation:

The main area of the action takes place in a 4.6m x 8m space at the entrance of a large U-shaped room with 7 steps leading down to a lower level. In the upper level (4.6 x 4.8m) pastel drawings of angels (21 x 29.7cm) cover the back wall. In front, a collection of little cherub angels (8) purchased commercially hang from the ceiling. At the top of the steps, 3 targets (self-portrait, head shaved) are suspended by cotton threads. A Christmas wreath, red, lit up and blinking around the three figures. On each of the 7 steps, two red markings and two black markings, on the left and the right, define the video scope of the security camera. The tripod camera, placed below on a table close to the public, will coldly film the action. In front of the camera, a K7 cassette player with a recording of a personal text on the theme of “control.” Finally, two toy pistols are hidden under an unbleached canvas that covers a second table at the bottom of the stairs.

Action:

The body is completely naked, with the exception of high-heeled boots and laces. The action starts with the activation of the soundtrack (the recorded text) and video. It will start upstairs, behind the portraits. Only the lower part of the body is seen. Stiff poses are taken with the photos of the face, front and profile. The same thing occurs in front of the effigies. Then the sound of the heels resounds on the steps. The repetitive displacement continues slowly in zigzag down the stairs. No excess, nor overflow: stop before the markings for the video image. The front and profile poses at each stop. The action will then accelerate with the same body language: ascent and descent of the steps faster and faster, exceeding limits and losing control. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, moving to the table. There, the first hidden pistol is pointed at the audience: a shot is heard. Someone will enter the space randomly. He will also be targeted. The targets will then be pointed. Eight shots fired repeated for each barrel round. A carnival game atmosphere: the finale with the water pistol. The time of the cassette sound is synchronized and planned to coincide with the action. At the end of the cassette and the shooting, flight, running up behind the targets, quick redressing, exiting the room, door slammed. End of the action.

Critique:

Action on the theme of violence done by others, against others, then to oneself. Another rhythm, another energy. Letting go of slowness, of softness. Negation of constraint, limits, control, propriety, codes, rules and judgment. An antisocial game. Art becomes a misdemeanor. Period of “reconstitution.” Whatever the price, the artist is implicated, responsible, even guilty of his/her acts and work. Art goes down the wrong track. A carnival of jokes and hoaxes, a con game with its array of ideals and concepts. It has its messengers, the angel. Between the calling and the sacrifice, we find murder or suicide. All is possible in its name as in the name of love. Art = danger! Be daring! No regrets!
