The title of the series is Nothing for us. In one place are three installations corresponding to three performances.

I was going through a period of sadness. My husband had left me for the beyond…at the same time, I had gone back to art school in Monaco. In 2008, we did a group exhibit, and I thought of a series with three poems by Paul Verlaine (1881): Sagesse (‘Wisdom’), La Vie humble (‘The Humble Life’), and Le Ciel est, par-dessus le toit (‘The Sky Above the Roof’).

The performances were given on two days; that is, one day for the video with three different costumes, before a private audience, and one public representation during the opening, with just one costume, during which I mend the torn part. It’s a little like sewing a wound, and remaining in suffering.

Description:

1. In the middle of the exhibit hall is a suspended terra cotta bell and red soil on the floor.

2. I move around the bell, touching it lightly.

3. I look into the bell from below, and I place my head inside.

4. I use my voice for two words:

“Where” (violently, using the resonance of the bell) and

“Here” (while my feet spread the soil to clear a space).

5. My body calmly lies down in the middle of the soil.
