Description:
"We had invited him for an event called Sous le soleil (Under the Sun) in 1988. Stanley had come and his participation consisted in leaving the Villa Arson in the morning (thus leaving the place of the exhibition), walk around town, and, in a specific place, determine that he was going to count his steps, return and give a report on this situation. We invited him for this, we paid him for this and he accomplished what is simply the absolutely non-speculative pursuit of reiteration of this daily gesture. He does not wander like the surrealists, he does not drift like the situationists: it is a sort of hygiene without health, of gymnastic without any other finality than itself and the rigor of its accounting" in BERNARD Christian, Art, crise des simulacres, réalité de la crise, in L'Art en temps de crise, 1994, p. 131 et passim.
