Dominique Angel | Bonjour monsieur Courbet, 2008

Description:

Dominique Angel dressed in a suite and tie, standing on a platform, reads a text. He tells that at the age of 11, in Vallauris, his father brought him to shake Picasso's hand, then a genuine local attraction.

His reading finished, still perched on the platform, he unwraps blocks of several kilos of fresh clay, extracts some slices and makes with it a full face helmet he models directly on his head. He starts by the hair and the top of his skull, then puts a slice on his face in which he opens a basic mouth and simple holes as eyes.

Continuing to stack layers of clay, he progressively transforms into a formally crude character, rough, primitive.

He concludes by wearing a small hat, also made of clay and, followed by the public, starts a stroll in the museum to reach the room whose floor is partially littered with broken crockery.

He removes his oversized helmet and, again, reads a text. He describes there what his father transmitted to him of his concept of art, his connection to the world when Dominique Angel was a child.
