Theoretical background:

The performance Carmen consists in a sort of dance on the song Adieu by Giovanna Marini, Italian songwriter and researcher of popular music and supporter of the struggle for women's rights.

Carmen (Copricorpo) is part of the project Copricorpo (2005-2007), a series of sculptures in continuous transformation. In Copricorpo (body-cover) body and sculpture melt and give rise to hybrids. Depending on the shape of the body, the sculpture changes, and vice versa. There is a fight between the inside and the container, bowels and skin, body and suits.

Description:

Zoé Gruni, body simply covered in attire made of coarse hemp cloth, upholstered and roughly sewn, in which one finds a female, a primitive chest, is performing clumsy choreography in the exhibition space against the music Adieu by Giovanna Marini. The “clothing” functions as an extension of her outstretched body, nearly supplanting it. This turns into a face decked out in two legs which give life to the rhythm of the music.
