Description:
As a contribution to the Festival du Peu Florent Mattei suggested organizing a ball on the village square. He brought a playlist of 182 songs that were important in his life, 12 hours of nonstop music of all styles.
the artist Florent Mattei, who enjoys playing with clichés and who has always been sensitive to music , warmly remembers the village balls of his childhood in Corsica. He chose Bonson in order to re-create this environment of paper lanterns, barbecues and dancing music. Choosing from the top 48 -- a compilation of songs that were important in his life, from Tino Rossi to Philippe Katerine -- he brought back memories and evoked a life in songs. He organized the screening of a home made film -- on July 4, 2006, during a heatwave, when he danced for two hours and 45 minutes, shirtless in his living room, to this same top 48, a sort of symbolic explosion leading to the exhaustion of the body and of the memories. The video of the top 48 was exhibited in the Vitrine of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) in Nice and led him to a first public performance on this theme, by organizing a ball on the Yves Klein square of the MAMAC in 2007. On March 21, 2008, he invented another musical expression: Mattei’s Boum (Party) included an exhibition of photographs of the artist (The World Is Perfect), the video of the top 48 and the hours of music, memories from his teenage years. Mattei’s Ball was a new version of his work, a performance more closely related to his childhood memories, to those songs that made every generation sing and dance.
