Description:
The exhibit www.lascaux2.org, proposed by the art center at the Villa Arson in the summer of 2009, (June 25-September 25) can only be viewed on the web at www.lascaux2.org. The exhibit halls are closed to the public. There is no private showing. Visitors without Internet access can go to the webstore at 12 rue de Russie in Nice for a half-hour of free access to the exhibit’s site. Lascaux 2 is both a virtual exhibit (Nice-Proxy) and a discussion forum (hyper99). Nice-Proxy allows a dozen artists, most of them living and working in Nice, to develop a changing piece for the exhibit. Each artist has use of a room for three months and presents his or her work to the public via webcam.

Jean-Luc Verna’s participation is that every day at 5:00 pm (from June 26 to July 7, from August 23-25, and from August 25-September 7), he takes up a pose for 2-10 minutes in front of the camera. The poses are a mix from the history of art, theater, and rock-and-roll. They could just as easily be from Lux Interior or Siouxsie Sioux as from Caravaggio, Ingres, or Delacroix. These poses/images also serve as an inventory of representations of the body such as those used in art school drawing studies.
