They invite us to appropriation and interaction, I add to the Restitution.

The reintroduction of transformed elements to the original works of Walde and Maguet in no way implies that these elements belong to them.

I take out some of the works exhibited by the institution and restore them, not as part of the work of M. Walde or A. Maguet, but as the work of Hervé Courtain restored to the institution.

“My approach to the work of Martin Walde cannot be summarized as “interactive”; I take a pair of scissors and act according to its will but within the limits foreseen by the artist and the institution. No! The work with appropriation, participation, restitution, and reappropriation originates in destruction, disappearance, rediscovery, restoration of works of art of every genre. Roman. Greek, or Byzantine mosaics, as one example among a thousand, destroyed by the flood of fetishists, collectors, and pillagers who for centuries have taken away from sites crumbs of what were often great works. It is also the claim that a work is only rich if it is open to a wide range of interpretations escaping the restriction of criticism in its own time to stretch from the past to the future… It’s the problem of relatedness, of the integration-rejection of models proposed by every new artist wishing to be integrated into the history of art.”
