Four portraits of various unnamed people are brought together in cardboard boxes forming a subgroup. Itself belonging to a group of nine boxes, itself associated to another group, etc. One of the portraits of each box is painted directly onto the Promenade des Anglas at the day’s end.

At the end of the day, Promenade des Anglais, my back is to the sea. I am there to paint two new series “False pinholes.”

Two boxes are open in front of me. In the lid of one, my portrait of Appeals; the lid of the second is empty.

In the two boxes, three portraits: one black-and-white identity portrait, a negative portrait and an either gold- or silver-painted portrait on the second face of the negative.

I wait for a passerby to agree to pose for thirty minutes sitting on a bench facing the sea. An egg-shaped kitchen timer keeps time.

I oilpaint the lid’s orange interior with a palette reduced to three colors (yellow ocher, red ocher, cerulean blue, white ivory and black titanium).
